Sherlock review

Part 1: The Empty Hearse

Our favourite sociopath is back!

The reunion scene was brilliant and intense - just as I expected. Every kind of emotion you can think of, any thought, was racing through my mind. After waiting over 2 years for this moment, I sat on my bed hugging my pillow, anticipation about to kill me. Then, a feeling of awkwardness when Sherlock failed to get John's attention. (But it was funny at the same time. xD) When John finally realised who was interrupting his marriage proposal, I literally almost died of holding my breath. And I just loved it when John tried to punch Sherlock. You're right there, John! Go on! He has to suffer for what he's done to you! - Sorry I got a bit carried away there! xDD

I absolutely adore Mary! (That's one standing ovation for Amanda Abbington! ;-) ) She's smart and Sherlock can't read her. It was such a sweet moment Sherlock and Mary shared outside the fish & chip shop, of which I have already seen pictures and know that it was filmed in Newport. As you might know from my previous posts, I got involved in #Setlock in the summer months and watched Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman do their job fantastically outside North Gower Street (aka Baker Street), while hundreds of fangirls watched from the other side of the street. I am all the more excited to see the scene that I watched being filmed, when I got a tiny glimpse of the fans waving in the tube station in this first episode. (If you watch carefully you can see it in the corner of the frame.)

Of course, as we know and love him (or not love him ;-P), Sherlock is as mean as ever and has to learn to turn his Asperger's or whatever it is he has (as they mention in The Hound of the Baskervilles) down again. But I was prepared for that, because Gatiss and Moffat already hinted at that in an interview. Still, it was very hard to watch at times. If I had been John, Sherlock would have had to deal with more bleeding noses. ;-P Particularly the bomb scene makes my blood boil. I had to learn the hard lesson that whenever Sherlock is agitated or cries, it is fake! Just plain fake! After this scene, I made the resolution to never pity or feel for him again. (Let's see how long that will last... ;-P) I loved the slowly redeveloping of the bromance, though, with Sherlock going through fire to rescue his best friend! Awwww! *squee*

*clears throat* Oh yeah, let's not forget about the off-switch on the bomb!!! Seriously?! That's just incredibly unbelievable and ridiculous! It is even more disturbing than the still pending cliffhanger about how he faked his death!

I loved the soundtrack, though, particularly in the background of the theories on how he did it! Anderson's theory was awesome! He really believes in Sherlock as the superhero. I couldn't help it but a long fangirlish outcry came out of my mouth, when he ruffled through his hair, put his collar up and kissed Molly passionately!!! Brilliant! *me dying*

The fangirl Sheriarty theory also made me scream and laugh at the same time, although I actually hate this fanfic Sheriarty stuff. In general, all weird fanfics including the ones where John and Sherlock are together shouldn't be out there! Give it up people! John is not gay! He very much emphasized that when he told Mrs. Hudson about his fiancée. But let's not be arrogant here. Every fangirl should get the fix she needs. ;-) (I'm not gonna judge anyone here!)

Well, and then there's the "real" theory... I'm a bit mad at Moffat and Gatiss that they want to leave this cliffhanger. They gave a simple and plausible solution at the end, but Sherlock's remark almost leaves me at the verge of madness like Anderson. When Sherlock said that there were so many critics, I felt that he was directly talking to the fans, which I kind of liked. The whole episode was a bit of a fangirl episode and I am still undecided if I liked that about it or not. Even Magnussen was fangirling at the end, rewatching the moment when Sherlock dragged John out of the fire! You gotta feel the bromance! ;-P

Speaking of romance, the scene with Molly introducing her fiance was just hilarious! Priceless! The dumb look on their faces! I just died of laughter!

Okay, let's finish up with some questions. Did anyone else notice that Sherlock remembered Anderson's first name but still doesn't know Lestrade's first name? Maybe he's doing it on purpose. Really, Sherlock! You should remember his name, if you get the reaction from him that you wanted from John! Just loved the hug! ^^

And did it seem to anyone else that Sherlock's mental powers were not at its height in this episode until he is with John? (Awww!) He always seemed a bit off or distracted when he made his deductions in this episode.

Next to these questions how did you like the episode? Do you agree or disagree with my fangirlish opinion? ;-)
