Confessions of a fangirl (part 5)

The UK = fangirl heaven

Above Pelennor Fields aka Bodmin Moor

WARNING: This post may contain strong traces of obsession. Do not read if you suffer from annoyance or hatred towards fangirls!

So, I moved to fangirl heaven. *.*
Let me explain:

Poldarked

Let's start with the closest and most obvious one. Now that I live in Cornwall I basically moved to the setting of Poldark. Seriously! Just a few weeks ago they were filming at a beach only an hour away from here. Unfortunately I didn't find out about that in time to go there. ;-P

By chance I saw a sign for 'The Making of Poldark in the local bookshop', an event featuring screenwriter Debbie Horsefield, consultant Andrew Graham and Eleanor Tomlinson who plays Demelza. Unfortunately it had already sold out but this just shows what a fangirl heaven this country can be. Only a week after missing that I had to fight my fangirl nature once more when the tutor of our creative project at uni casually mentioned that he's staying in the same hotel as the "Poldark people" (as he referred to them). It was close but I succeeded in suppressing the urge to ask him where he's staying. Because that would've been creepy... (He probably wouldn't have been allowed to tell me anyway. Surely they have to keep the stalking fangirls off their backs. ;-P)

I also noticed that I can learn a lot more from other fangirls here. For once I am not the most obsessed person in the room who knows way too much about books/movies/TV shows. I am not the only one who knows backstories of characters and obsesses about actors or comparisons between book to movie adaptations. There are much more people who have a broader knowledge of the story/TV show than I do. For example, with Arrow and The Flash I start feeling the lack of not having read the Comics. At some point the discussion always ends up along the lines of "I wonder how this character develops in the TV show because in the Comics s/he did that." (I usually have these kind of conversations with book to movie adaptations.) So, in this new fangirl universe I can learn from others and broaden my horizon. It's wonderful!

This is not to say that fangirls who have more knowledge than me don't exist in Austria. I'm just saying that we're pretty rare species in Austria. ;-P So, no offence, my fellow fangirls from Austria!;-)

Wibbly wobbly, timey wimey stuff

I'm also in the process of organising a regular Doctor Who night with my fellow Whovians here. It is sooooooooo good to finally be able to watch Doctor Who on TV and not having to wait for the stream on the next day. (And you also get BBC iplayer here!) Of course, discussing your favourite Doctor and companion is a must! ^^

And then, there's Doctor Who Experience in Cardiff. It is most definitely one of the destinations that I'm planning to go to as soon as possible.

Setlock

Another sure destination is North Gower Street otherwise none as Baker Street in BBC's Sherlock. I go there every time I go to London. It became kind of a ritual. Yay! My very own fangirl ritual! ;-P And it paid off because that's how I found out about Setlock two years ago and saw Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman, Mark Gatiss, Steven Moffat, Sue Vertue and the whole BBC crew do their job. They'll start filming season four next year in spring, which gives me another opportunity to see them in action. Stalking the cast of Sherlock since 2013! haha Can't wait!

I know it's not creepy at all, right? ;-P No, it actually is not because I've already found plenty of people who will join me in my quest for an autograph and watching them film. And if there are so many of us, we can't all be creepy stalkers, right? ^^

Speaking of, I also got tickets for the live stream of Hamlet with our very own Benedict Cumberbatch playing the tragic hero, which was on in the small local theatre in town. This would be unimaginable in Austria! I'd have to go all the way to Vienna to see it or perhaps they wouldn't even show it there. Don't get me wrong, I would go to Vienna just to see it. But the point here is that over here I can just go to the local cinema in this small town in Cornwall. I love it!

And obviously Cumberbatch was brilliant as Hamlet! ;-) I also loved Siân Brooke's performance as Ophelia. The sound effects and lighting were amazing. That's my tiny review! Go and watch it yourselves! ;-)
