It's that time of the year
again! No, I don't mean Christmas, actually. ;-P I mean, it's the time for
fangirl hearts to beat faster. Recently, a lot is going on in various fandoms since
new stuff has been released and others are approaching quickly to make their
way into our hearts.
Now, what exactly do I mean
by stuff? Well, there's the box
office cracking and latest movie version of The
Hunger Games trilogy. Then we had the Doctor
Who 50th Anniversary special, of which I'm not a fan as of yet. But soon, I
expect to become a Whovian with some of my friends going on about it all the
time. The Special Extended Edition of The
Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey was
released! Haven't treated myself to much of the specials yet, but The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is the most recent fangirl pulse-elevating treat
in the world of fandoms and nerds.
Aaaaaaand: Drum roll please!
For the world's one and only consulting detective! Finally, the BBC has given
the starved Sherlock fans a few excellent treats in the form of stills and an
interactive trailer! It has been too long with fans going crazy on tumblr and
putting Sherlock in a nutshell or
making silly gifs. I,
myself chose to watch the episodes over and over again and participate in
#Setlock. On August 21st, I had the great honour of watching Martin and Benedict do
their job in North Gower Street. It was a hot summer day and I couldn't believe
that they were shooting just on the other side of the street from where I was
standing. It was surreal! Unfortunately, I didn't get an autograph, but I took
hundreds of pictures and made lots of videos. It was probably the closest I
will ever get to the actors, but we'll see. ;-P
However, the purpose of my
post today is not about my one day trip to London. I intend to give you an
insight into the life of a fangirl once more. This time by admitting to
potentially embarrassing fangirl secrets. Have fun! ;-P
Fangirl secret #1
Since this one has been a
real strain on my nerves I start with Sherlock. It's been waaaaaaaayyyy too
long! The heart-breaking and nerve-wrecking ending of The Reichenbach Fall has left the fandom in mourning and guessing
how he survived. (I bet some "crazy" fans even grew a mournstache to
show some compassion for poor John! ;-P I hope he punches Sherlock in the face!
haha)
Never trying to really
figure out how Sherlock escaped his fate, because I know I'm not smart enough
for that, I spent the time with listening to the soundtrack of both series
almost every day. It has a fixed place in my playlist on my mp3 player and so I
walked the streets of Salzburg, Cork and Bristol - wherever I lived at that moment
- with the Sherlock soundtrack in my ears. So, I could see the battlefield and
endure until New Year's day 2014.
Fangirl secret #2:
As we've now established
that soundtracks are a good way to bear the long wait for the next season of a
TV-series, it could also be used to bridge the gap to the next movie. Following
this treatment of fangirl longing, you could tune into the Song of the Lonely Mountain or The Reichenbach Ballad when I got a call
or a text message.
Fangirl secret #3:
Speaking of soundtracks,
probably one of the good things that came out of or are left of the Twilight mania are the soundtracks. They
are still nice to listen to, although the fandom has cooled down around it and
I am not a passionate 'Twiheart' anymore for various reasons. But to get to my fangirl secret here: I used to read
certain scenes in the books again and again when I felt bad, particularly, when I was studying
the whole day and couldn't take it anymore. Stories always make me feel better
and now that Twilight lost its appeal
other characters make me smile. When I take one of my favourite books out and
reread one of my favourite passages, I am caught up once more in the fantastic world that amazing writers created. It is the allure of stepping out of
reality and experiencing another sphere for a while. So far, the world of
Shadowhunters and the realm of fairies hasn't lost its charm for me and I
gladly return to it from time to time.
Fangirl secret #4
is probably not that much
of a secret, since I keep on spamming my facebook with these. (By the way,
sorry about that, guys! ;-P) I love watching videos of my favourite actors from
TV shows and movies. If I can find some, I also love to watch interviews of my
favourite authors. This secret wouldn't be so bad after all, if there wasn't
the slight obsession with Benedict Cumberbatch's voice. Sometimes it's just
nice to listen to his voice even if you don't pay attention to what he's
saying. And now that you think me totally mental, let me assure you that I am
not the only one. Look up any of the audiobooks that some amazing fans provided
on YouTube and you will find the most disturbing comments regarding this
handsome and very talented British actor's voice. I'll only say as much: To
keep my blog PG, I cannot give you any examples on here! ;-P
Well done for bearing with
me until the end! If you're interested, read what I had to say about fandoms in
part 1.
Do you have any fangirl
obsessions? Let me know in the comments! ;-)

Ahhh I hope I'm pressing the right buttons to comment; it's all in German!!
ReplyDeleteSo I finally looked up Benedict Cumberbatch and yesss now I know who that is!! How awesome that he plays the voice of Smaug?!!? I cannot wait to see that movie, hopefully this weekend or next weekend!
What an interesting idea to listen to the soundtrack of a film or tv show while you are waiting for the next one to come out! I LOVED the soundtrack from the first Hobbit movie, I might have to add that to my ipod :)
Awesome blog Lisi!!!! :D
Yeah AND he did the motion capture as well!^^ He always insists on that in the interviews. haha
